Posted by admin in weeklycast

48 hours before the release of his album, “A Work in Progress,” Providence hip-hop artist and hip-hop scholar Jon Hope joined Matt in cousin Sabby’s studio for a two part mega-cast. The first segment details Hope’s creative process, the challenges of repping the smallest state in the country, the inspiration for the album’s title, what it means to be a TRULY independent artist and of course, AGC! The second segment is a must-listen for any hip-hop fans: Hope breaks down his musical influences, list his top 5 MC’s of all time, the two old school heads wonder “where have all the female MC’s gone?” debate Common/NO I.D. v Common/ Kanye, consider the passing of MCA and the Beastie Boys place in hip-hop history, geek out over Scarface’s longevity and Nas’ lyricism.  Without warning, Matt challenges Hope aka Nas’ Biggest Stan to spit a verse from “Illmatic.”

Weeklies Episode 35

For the first part of our Weekly Cast anniversary series, we brought on two super-special guests* to talk about the world of New York sports: Jared Bloom of Long Island and Grantland.com and New Jersey’s own Raymond “Chris Mullen” Sultan. Our two native informants help us figure out who likes what teams and why, discuss what’s wrong with Mets fans, and marvel at the power of New York sports talk radio. Plus we get into some overlooked NBA storylines and, much like New York itself, barely even mention the Giants’ Super Bowl victory because we’re much too busy going ABSOLUTELY FREAKING LINSANE as we break down a certain Knickerbocker’s game.

The boys catch up with Tamara Dhia, writer/creator of youtube sensation “Sh*T White Girls Say to Arab Girls.”  We ask Dhia about the production process, stereotypes that influenced the skit, the response to her clip, how it went viral, whether or not it’s affected her career and what’s next for the Los Angels based actress.. We close with a discussion about the Academy award nominations for a bunch of movies we haven’t seen yet and wonder how Michael Fassbender’s penis got snubbed!

WEEKLIES EPISODE 32

Weeklies Episode 32! This week we talk to Jared Bloom, a writer for The Full Ginsburg and Grantland, about the world of social networking: he tells the story of how he managed to parlay his twitter account into a job working for Bill Simmons, and we survey the impact of user-generated content sites like Youtube on the landscape of pop culture. We also get into the question of whether or not objectivity is ever actually possible in journalism, try to figure out when it’s time to quit chasing your dream job, and tell ourselves to stop caring so much about our sports teams because it just doesn’t matter.

WEEKLIES NBA EPISODE 8

Posted by admin in weeklycast

On this week’s edition of the Weeklies NBA Podcast, we’re joined by Shan Shariff of Dallas’s 105.3 the Fan as we try to make sense of the rapidly changing post-lockout world. We bristle under the heavy hand of Czar Stern (sorry, Lakers and Rockets!), get really really excited for the CP3-Blake Griffin experience, and geek out about Lamar Odom in Dallas. We also foretell the end of the Second Kobe Dynasty, debate just how good the Bulls are going to be or not be, and explore Orlando’s options. Plus, the cast almost ends early as Shan says something nice about Vince Carter and Ray has to be forcibly restrained.

WEEKLIES EPISODE 26

The Weekly Boys are back to talk about Halloweening – discussing costumes, candy and Joe’s odd obsession with wearing spandex and stuffing his pants. In Living Color and Beavis and Butthead are back and dem boys weigh in on whether or not it’s a good idea to resurrect 90s classics. Joe and Matt then consider a 9-5 cubicle lifestyle and compare it to their “always on the clock” occupations they currently lead.. Finally, in a teary-eyed confession, Joe opens up about how he got double timed like a Timbaland beat as he recently found out he got played by a summer fling. The tables have turned! Matt, stop coughing and go see a doctor.

Weeklies Episode 23

Posted by admin in weeklycast

Weeklies Episode 23! The Redemption! Coming off a somber podcast recorded on September 11th, the Boys are back dissect the controversial Mayweather/Ortiz, classic post-match interview with Larry Merchant, and how Shantel Jackson has crept into Joe’s “Top 10 Females Alive” list. Keeping with the HBO theme, Dem Boys bust into 24/7 Real Sports talk, rant and rave on the last season of Curb Your Enthusiasm & the Charmin soft Entourage finale, crack on Joe’s uncanny resemblance to the slimmed down Turtle, and get hyped for the upcoming seasons of How To Make It In America and Boardwalk Empire. Finally, there couldn’t be an episode number 23 without mentioning the great Mike Jordan. The boys praise Jumpman’s legacy and wonder aloud if there will ever be as dominant (or celebrated) an athlete while Matt goes overboard with his love for Lionel Messi.
